Situated at the foot of the South Downs within view of Goodwood, D W Camping is behind the Chichester Garden Centre (Wyevale) on the A259 to Bognor Regis. Walk through the garden centre, turn left and enter one of the largest tent displays in the South, featuring a carefully chosen selection of the best-known names at competitive prices.
Browse the 2000 sq. ft. accessories shop where there’s sure to be something you need, whether it’s a classic camping essential or an exciting new gizmo.
Having been entranced by the choice, the friendliness and expertise of the staff and the general ambience of the nicest camping shop ever, why not round off the day by visiting one of the area’s lesser known attractions, for example, the thought provoking Tangmere Aviation Museum, the stunning Goodwood Racecourse, the beautiful sandy beaches at West Wittering, the fascinating Roman Palace at Fishbourne…………………….
The new tents are in for 2017, but the staff remain the same. Unlike many of our competitors, we keep our staff all winter so that every one of them knows what they’re talking about when it comes to tents and accessories. No untrained temporary summer staff here!
Dave, that is, not our tents! We have a fabulous range of air tents again this year from leading brands Vango, Outwell, Kampa, and Outdoor Revolution. Easy to pitch, spacious, sturdy and stylish, air tents are proving to be a very popular choice with our customers. The three Vango tents behind Dave are the Illusion TC 800 XL, the Illusion 800 XL and the Maritsa 600XL.
In pole position
Chris is in charge when Dave’s not around and with vast experience he has proved to be capable of sorting out just about everything, from our Facebook page to catastrophic snowstorm damage when Dave was away sunning himself in Tenerife. We’re hoping he never finds the love of his life as he’ll probably want the weekends off. He’s shown here with our best selling poled tent for the last two years, the Vango Orava 600XL and the new Royal Welford 4, also poled.
The awning after
Adam is like Tigger – he just bounces back! He often goes drinking very late in Brighton, but still arrives at work the following morning raring to go, having cycled in all the way from Wittering. He also loves to experiment with cooking and his knowledge of food is almost as impressive as his knowledge of camping. He’s here with a selection of Vango Drive-Away Air awnings, a must-have for motorhome and camper van owners.
The new Airedale 8 from Outdoor Revolution is a vis-à-vis style tent - for the uninitiated that means the bedrooms are opposite each other rather than all across the back of the tent. This one is an air tent, but we also have a poled vis-à-vis in the Royal Brisbane 8. Val worked for many years at Millets and Bell’s in Bognor Regis before joining us seven years ago. She is a big animal lover and quite likes the small ones too.
A real lightweight
A small book-keeper with a small back-packer! Shirley’s under 5ft tall and apart from doing the paperwork she’s the perfect choice for sweeping inside our little tents; this one is the Vango Tango 200 which has a side entrance, making it easy to get in and out, and the door can be put up on the poles supplied to make a handy canopy. Shirley is the exception to the ‘knowing everything about tents’ as she only comes in to do maintenance. She knows a little bit – but a little bit of knowledge can be a dangerous thing! As can Shirley.
Reasons to be cheerful
Outwell have increased the size of some of their bedrooms by an extra half a metre’s depth and introduced the Inlazzz, a 7mm thick PV insulated inlay for the bedroom. Now you can have room to get dressed at the end of the bed, have bedside furniture if you wish and get up in the morning to cosy flooring – just like at home!
Ask anyone what the worst thing about camping is and they’ll tell you – getting up in the middle of the night to go to the toilet block! The side porch is back this year which lends itself to many uses, but keeping an overnight loo in it has to be the secret to blissful camping. We’ve models from Outwell and Kampa which include a side porch, but if they’re not your cup of tea, a separate toilet tent might be just the ticket.
